Development of Terraria: Otherworld has officially been shelved, developer Re-Logic has announced on its official forums.
The spin-off title to the immensely popular sandbox-scented action title Terraria was originally announced over three years ago for PC, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions a possibility down the line. However, the studio confirmed that Otherworld was not only behind schedule but also failed to live up to its original vision, and so made the difficult decision to call time on the project.
Re-Logic also admitted that it revealed Terraria: Otherworld far too early for public consumption, and therefore has said it will be ‘far more judicious’ in regards to only divulging info on projects that it is confident are on track as far as timing goes.
‘Taking the massive amount of work that would be remaining to complete along with the extensive time it would take to get that done, and how that would greatly interfere with the pursuit of other projects on behalf of Re-Logic – it becomes clear that this leaves things in a very undesirable state,’ the company said.
‘As a result, we have made the decision to terminate development of Terraria: Otherworld.’
Looking to the future, Re-Logic confirmed that it continues to work on Terraria with version 1.3.6 still very much in the pipeline.
