Another week, another Fortnite patch, alongside promises of yet more to come via the in-game News section of the free-to-play battle royale shooter. Following the v6.02 update on Tuesday, which brought back the Skull Trooper skin and introduced the new Disco Domination Limited Time Mode, Epic Games has revealed the impending release of the Quadcrasher, a new vehicle inspired by the ATV Quad Bike.
According to its News entry, the Quadcrasher lets its pilots “Charge the boost to crash through structures or get some air”, though that’s all the information we have to go on right now. It’s unclear how many players will be able to ride the vehicle (hopefully two), or even when it will release, though history tells us it’ll probably be sometime next week once the next patch rolls out.

That said, the ability to “crash through structures” poses some very interesting implications for Fortnite Battle Royale’s precarious competitive meta. Building forts is a huge part of the game’s dynamics, but a vehicle which could destroy a player’s defences like a knife through warm butter could greatly reduce the viability of master builder strategies like on the fly tower constructions and trap placements.
It’s not known how easily the Quadcrasher will be able to break down these structures, or if it will lose health with every barrage, so we’ll have to see whether Epic’s description is as game-changing as it sounds. The Quadcrasher is scheduled to release “soon”, in any case, at which point you can expect to hear the clamour of veteran Fortnite players yearning for a return to the good old days of battle royale.
